I examine the biomolecular composition (i.e. lipids and proteins) of Arctic ice algae at the communal and individual cell scale, using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrochemical imaging. I am interested in how environmental factors, such as light and nutrient availability affect their metabolic processes (i.e. the accumulation of cellular lipids and proteins) during the spring bloom. I have taken part in multiple field project, including the 2014 & 2017 ICE-CAMPS (Ice Covered Ecosystem-Cambridge Bay Process Study), GreenEdge 2015 and the 2015 Martin Bergman cruise.
