Co-op and Internship Programs Overview
Interested in relevant work experience while still in school? The Co-op program may be right for you!

The Mechanical and Manufacturing Department offers a Co-operative Education program to allow students to supplement their learning by applying their knowledge in the work force before graduating. The many benefits of Co-op include:
  • Learn new skills and applications
  • Industry Contacts – Build your professional engineering network by participating in company functions
  • Job references from a P.Eng (looks great on a resume)
  • Possible part-time employment over the regular academic year – can’t be used as a co-op work term but helps maintain industry contacts.
  • Potential for permanent employment
  • Greater marketability at graduation
  • Explore different career opportunities to clarify your career direction
  • Finance your education – Co-op is paid work experience. Earn anywhere from $13 - $15 per hour and in some cases more.
  • Practical applications of theoretical knowledge – put into practical use things you have learned in the classroom
  • Develop good report writing skills… Take your report with you on an interview
  • Develop technical, written and interpersonal skills
  • Interview and job search skills
  • Develop self confidence

The Job Search

The Co-op Coordinator begins the search for job placements for students once applications have been accepted. Students are also eligible to search for jobs on their own, primarily if they wish to work out of province. However, looking for a job can be a full-time job and that is why the Co-op office is here to help. Below are a list of some possible jobs areas:
  • Consulting
  • Research and preparation of technical reports
  • Product design and development
  • Quality improvement programs
  • Productivity improvement
  • Product field representative
  • Process development
