GENERAL INFORMATION

CANADIAN & CANADIAN RESIDENTS STUDENT APPLICANTS ONLY:

NSERC -- A significant proportion of individual student and academic research funds are granted by the Government of Canada through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). It is NSERC's mandate to make investments in people, discovery and innovation for the benefit of all Canadians. They achieve this by supporting more than 26,500 students and post-doctoral fellows in their advanced studies and by funding more than 11,800 researchers nationwide. Since 1999, NSERC has invest in excess of $7 billion in university-based research and training.

Prospective graduate students who are either Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and who have a strong academic history, are encouraged to apply for direct funding through the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships and NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarships programs. The annual deadline for submission of applications to NSERC is typically mid-November with funds awarded the following spring. For official procedures, program information, and application deadlines please refer to the NSERC website (www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca).
