REGISTRATION INFORMATION

 


ACCEPT OFFER OF ADMISSIONS!

You MUST ACCEPT the University's "OFFER OF ADMISSIONS". 

You are not Graduate Student and will not be able to register until you've accepted the University's OFFER OF ADMISSIONS to the Graduate Program. 

  • Go to your UMGradConnect Account
  • Go to your Offer Letter
  • ON the letter click on ACCEPT

 


REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

  1. ACCEPTANCE OF OFFER:  Send back the Acceptance of Offer Form or respond back electronically... as soon as possible (ASAP).
  2. ADVISOR:  Speak to your Advisor regarding
    1. YOUR ARRIVAL DAY & TIME
    2. COURSES -- which course(s) to enroll-in
    3. YOUR RESEARCH
    4. CONFERENCE & PAPER PRESENTATIONS
    5. PUBLISHING
    6. ADVISOR STUDENT GUIDELINE

      ALL Courses you take while at the university MUST first be approved by your Academic Advisor and in some cases your Ph.D. Advisory Committee. 
      It may be difficult to contact professors by phone, so please initially begin contact by email unless they ask you to contact them in another manner

  4. ONLINE REGISTRATION (Courses) -- FIRST TIME
    1. UNIVERSITY STUDENT REGISTRATION SYSTEM:  Throughout your time at the University, you will register for all courses, look up your grades and fees, etc. on the University's registration system entitled "AURORA".
    2. FIRST TIME USING AURORA:  Please read the instructions for Registering for the FIRST TIME on the Aurora page https://aurora.umanitoba.ca/banprod/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin
      1. UserID:  (use your 7-digit student number)
      2. PIN #:   (enter your birth date (YYMMDD))
      3. BEGIN REGISTRATION  (FIRST TIME INSTRUCTIONS)
        •  GO TO https://aurora.umanitoba.ca/banprod/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage
        • Click on "ENTER SECURE AREA"
        • USER ID:   Key-in your STUDENT ID NUMBER (this number is in the top right-hand corner of your Offer Letter. It starts with two zeros "00")
        • PIN:  First time, key-in your birth date (YYMMDD) -- no dashes or slashes
          • After successfully logging onto the system you will be asked to change PIN
          • Create several "Security Questions"
          • Please keep these somewhere you can access them (we will not know your security info)
    3. ADDING / DROPPING A COURSES: 
      1. NEXT, look at the TABs across the top of your page
      2. Click on this tab:  ENROLMENT & ACADEMIC RECORDS
      3. Click on REGISTRATION
      4. On this page you have two(2) options
      5. You may now EXIT
  5.  GENERAL REGISTRATION INFO
    1. GRADUATE PROGRAM REGISTRATION:  Regardless of whether you are taking a course this semester you must register in the Graduate Program each year.  Please register for either
      1. Master's Registration:
        GRAD 7020
      2. Ph.D. Registration: 
        GRAD 8020
      3. Summer Students
        (only for students who are admitted during the Summer Term):
        GRAD 6000
    2. ADD or DROP CLASSES
      If you know the course, section, and CRN (Course Registration Number) for your courses select this option 
      1.  Select the TERM: Fall 2018, Winter 2019, etc. 
      2. You will now see the ADD or DROP CLASSES screen
      3. At the bottom of this page, in the empty boxes type the CRNs of the courses in which you wish to register
      4. Click on the button:  SUBMIT CHANGES
    3. LOOK UP CLASSES
      If you DON’T know the CRN number for your courses chose this option --  you’ll be able to search for your course
      1. Select the TERM  (e.g. Fall 2018, Winter 2013, etc.)
        (Note: if you selected Get Courses on the Add or Drop Classes page you will search for courses in the same term that was selected in the Add or Drop Classes page.)
      2. You’ll see a scroll-down menu (by SUBJECT)
      3. Search by course subject
      4. Below the scroll-down menu is a box entitled “Any Course Number
      5. Click the button:  CLASS SEARCH
      6. The Class Schedule Listing page will open
      7. CHECK (click on the box) the box of the courses in which you wish to be registered
      8. Scroll to the bottom of the page
      9. Click the button:   REGISTER
      10. The course should appear on your screen with the registration date
      11. You’ve registered for a course – congratulations!
      12. You may now EXIT  
  6. COURSE REGISTRATION:  In Aurora, you may register for courses suggested by your Advisor.  You MUST have your Advisor's permission BEFORE registering for courses. Please see instructions at http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/engineering/departments/ece/curr_students/graduate/registering.html
  7. NUMBER OF COURSES PER SEMESTER:  You may select up to 3 courses per semester, however it is STRONGLY suggested you take only 1-2 courses per semester
  8. NO CREDIT COURSES 
    (AU = Audit Courses)
    1. Professors may want you to strengthen your background in a particular area and ask you to take courses which will not apply towards your degree
    2. Please clarify with your professor as to how they'd like to register for this type of course
    3. You must register through the Graduate Advisor -- you will not be able to register yourself under these classifications
    4. These courses are not included in your regular tuition -- you will be charged extra fees for each course you take under this category
      1. you will be charge per credit hour
      2. various courses in various departments are offered at different rates

 


SET-UP ClaimID ACCOUNT

PLEASE NOTE: the Claim your UMNetID System (signUM) has been connected to our  mail system, Exchange. When you change your password, within 10 minutes your Exchange password will be updated to the new password you have selected. If you are using a different password in the signUM system, your Exchange password will not change until you update it in signUM. Users who are using Outlook who change their password in signUM will be prompted by Outlook to enter the new password for their Exchange account.

When you check-in at the Department, we'll give you a packet of information. One of the enclosed forms is an "ID Card" form. You should activate your card as soon as possible (obtain building and room access).

 


PAY TUITION & FEES (applying your scholarships, awards, & bursaries to your tuition & fees)

 

  • After you register for at least one(1) course you'll be able to see your fees (what you owe for the semester and/or Academic Year) in the Aurrora Systems under "Student Fee Account"
  • PAYMENTS OPTIONS & FAQ
  • INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS: Available to International Students
    • receiving a Research/Teaching Assistantship
    • you MUST request approval to pay in installments -- APPLICATION FORM
