New Students – Registering for Courses

 



  • REGISTERING FOR A COURSE
    You may register for courses online or when you arrive  

     
    • Go to Aurora Student (this is our registration system)
      https://aurora.umanitoba.ca/banprod/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin

    • Click on "ENTER SECURE AREA"

    • Enter your "USERID"
      • this is your Student ID number or your Aurora ID number

    • Enter your "PIN"
      • the FIRST TIME you logon enter your birth date (YYMMDD)
      • after this FIRST time logon you will, here after, use the PIN info given to you by ClaimID (see below)

    • Security Questions
      • Aurora will ask you to create two (2) security questions in the event you forget your logon or password
      • Please write your logon, passwords, and security answers somewhere secure...
        • it can be an inconvenience to visit the IST Offices to try to obtain security information

    • New Screen: Click on "ADD OR DROP COURSES" from the list of items on your screen

    • Click on "SELECT TERM"
      • Enter the TERM (FALL 2012) in which you are registering for courses

    • You will be asked to enter a CRN number -- unfortunately, all our information gives courses numbers using ECE numbers. If you don't know the CRN NUMBER...

       
      • Go to the bottom of the screen

      • Click on the button "LOOK UP CLASSES"   


        1. SUBJECT MENU:  Select the department giving the course you want to register for.  Usually...
          1. "GRADUATE STUDIES"
          2. "ELECTRICAL & COMPUTER ENGINEERING"
          3. "COMPUTER SCIENCE"
          4. "MATHEMATICS"
          5. "STATISTICS", etc.

        2. If you know the course number, you may enter just the number in "ANY COURSE NUMBER" (it is located under the SUBJECT MENU)

        3. If you don't know the course number, click on the button "GET COURSES"

      • A list of courses in the deparement you selected will appear (both undergraduate and graduate courses, if applicable)
      • SCROLL DOWN or do a FIND for the courses you wish to take
      • Put a CHECK in the Check Box next to your course
      • Go to the bottom of the screen and select OK

      • If you cannot put a check next to the course or you receive an error message. 
        • CUT & PASTE the error message into an email and send it to me.
          • include your name
          • student ID #
        • DON'T save an image.

    • You should either now be registered for the courses you selected OR one or more will describe a problem (e.g. prerequisite required, instructor permission required, etc.)
      • If you encounter a problem please email so I can try to fix this for you before you arrive

 


CLAIM ID

ClaimID is a system which gives you your

  • University logons and passwords
  • University email account
  • University UNIX account
    • store information & access from anywhere
    • create your own webpage

  1. You must wait 24-hours (1 working day) after registering for a course BEFORE you can create an account in ClaimID

  2. Go to CLAIMID -- https://pasweb.cc.umanitoba.ca/webapp/gu/claimid/

  3. Click "Create UMnetID"

  4. Key-in your "LAST NAME"
    • If this system does not accept your LAST NAME
      • Key-in your name without dashes or spaces
      • Email me -- space is limited so the techs have shortened some last names to fit in the space. Email me if your name does not fit in the space provided  

  5. Key-in your "STUDENT NUMBER" or "AURORA NUMBER"

  6. Key-in your "BIRTH DATE" = MM/DD/YYYY


  7. Follow the step-by-step instructions
    1. You'll be asked to select 2 SECURITY QUESTIONS
    2. Save your answers -- no one has access to your answers
    3. If you forget your answers you will have to RESET your account at IST (Information Services & Technology -- the University's technology group) 

  8. You will see a page of PASSWORDS and LOGONs and ACCOUNTS    
    1. Print this out and keep it with you! You will use this information throughout the time you are here at the University.
    2. If you lose this information you must see (when you get here) -- this area will be very crowded for the first few weeks of each semester -- ugh! 
       
  9. Click FINISH
