ANNOUNCEMENTS & PRESENTATIONS
  • ANNOUNCEMENTS:  must be made 2-weeks prior to presentation

  • PRESENTATIONS:  must be made during regular business hour (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., M-F)
    • Under special circumstances, leeway is sometimes permitted for presentations which cannot be given during regular business hours -- Please contact the ECE Associatate Head of Graduate Studies, Dr. Shaahin Filizadeh @ shaahin_filizadeh@umanitoba.ca

       
  • M.Sc. & M.Eng. STUDENTS: Please make sure your Master’s Thesis/Practicum Title and Appointment of Examiners form is submitted to the Graduate Student Advisor 2 1/2 -weeks before your presentation 
     
  • Ph.D. CANDIDACY STUDENTS:  Please make sure your Ph.D. Program of Study and Appointment of Advisory Committee form is submitted Graduate Student Advisor 2 1/2-weeks prior to your presentation
     
  • Ph.D. FINAL ORAL STUDENTS:  Please make sure your PH.D. THESIS TITLE & APPOINTMENT OF EXAMINERS form is submitted to the Graduate Student Advisor ~ 6-8-weeks prior to your presentation. FGS will check this so it may take a while to process. You cannot present until they approve your committee members.

 

M.Sc. & M.Eng. CHECKLIST

  • GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
    • 18 credit hour
      • 12 credit hour from ECE at, or above the 7000 level
    • Thesis
    • Pubic Announcements of Defence
    • Successfully Defend
       
  • THESIS
    • Advisor should OK your thesis
    • Meet with your advisor to decide on a Defence Date & Time
      • Your Advisor will contact committee members to select Defence Dates & Times
      • Email to the Graduate Advisor
        • AV Requests
        • Defence Date
        • Defence Time
        • Thesis Title (M.Eng. -- Project Title)
        • Committee Info
          • Usually your Advisor will have already submitted an "Master's Thesis & Appointment of Examiners Form".
          • If your this form has not yet been submitted I will submit one for you. I will just need the names of your Committee Members
      • The Graduate Advisor will book your Room and AV Requests
    • Distribute your thesis to your Examining Committee
      • Examining Committee should be given at least 4-6 weeks to read your thesis
         
  • PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS
    • The Graduate Advisor will distribute & post announcements
      • Public Announcement of your Defence MUST be made at least 10-days prior to your Defence Date
         
  • SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND
    • Your Advisor will give the Graduate Advisor the THESIS FINAL REPORT
    • YOU must provide FGS with the following:

 

Ph.D. FINAL

  • Ph.D CHECKLIST
    • GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
      • M.Sc. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and who have been admitted directly into the Ph.D. program
        • Minimum of 12 credit hours at, or above the 7000 level
        • at least 9 of the 12 credit hours must be from the ECE
           
      • B.Sc. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering and who are recommended for transfer into the Ph.D. program from the M.Sc. program in ECE at this university
        • Minimum 24 credit hours of course work is required, of which, 18 credit hours must be at or above the 7000 level
        • At least 15 of the 24 credit hours must be from this Department
        • Credit may be given for approved course work completed at the M.Sc. level
           
      • All other categories
        • Minimum 18 credit hours of course work is required, of which, 12 credit hours must be at or above the 7000 level
        • At least 12 of the 18 credit hours must be from this Department
           
    • EXTERNAL COMMITTEE MEMBER
  • THESIS PROPOSAL

 

  • IRON RING
    • Iron Ring Ceremony (Grad Students) -- Contact: Dave Ennis, P. Eng. (mailto:ns2@mts.net?subject=IRON RING CEREMONY -- Univ. of Manitoba)
      • Please contact Dave Ennis directly for the Iron Ring form and Ceremony.
      • Graduate Students, unlike undergrads, must joint APEGM as MEMBER-IN-TRAINING (MIT)
      • Graduate Students must graduate BEFORE participatingin the Iron Ring Ceremony or receive permission from Dave Ennis.
        • In the latter, you will need a letter from the department that says you're graduating shortly. Just let us know and we can provide the letter.
      • FYI -- you may apply for and receive your ring anytime after joining APEGM
