Biosystems Engineering projects will ideally be
relevant to one of the following areas of specialization: agricultural,
biomedical, bioprocessing, environmental, or sustainable structures.
Projects are completed by the students over two academic terms (i.e., 8
months). By the end of the first academic term, students are expected
to have developed a conceptual design complete with drawings, a cost
estimate, and a bill of materials. During the second academic term,
students fabricate a prototype using the department's shop facilities
with assistance from the department's technicians. Project sponsors
will receive a prototype and a written report describing the prototype.
Project sponsors are expected to cover the cost of materials for
prototyping. Examples of some successful biosystems projects from the
past are:
- Design
of a system for marking field plots
-
Design
of laboratory apparatus for demonstrating the functioning of grain yield
monitor
-
Design
of a straw-clay mixer
