After completing my Ph.D. at UBC in 1997, came to the University of Manitoba. I am currently an Associate Professor of second language education with particular interests in teaching english as a second language.

Areas of Specialization:

  • ESL and SESD teaching and learning
  • First language loss, attrition, and maintenance
  • English and indigenous languages worldwide
  • Multilingual development
  • The social constructions of language learners

Research Interests:

Current research projects include:

Principal investigator, Standard research grant Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, (2007-2010). $107,413.00 received. Identifying Barriers faced by Immigrant Children and Youth Nationally. Co-investors: Dr. R. Renaud & Dr. B. Burnaby.
