Jump
The University of Manitoba recently launched Jump, a new student portal that will replace MyUMinfo, the older student portal. Jump is an on-line desktop that any current U of M student can access from any computer that is connected to the Internet. Jump provides direct access to various services that students may want to use such as ANGEL, Library resources, U of M e-mail accounts, and course homepages that are complete with message boards and chat rooms for people involved in that course.
How do I access Jump?
In order to access Jump you must:
- Be a current student or faculty member at the University of Manitoba.
- Have your UMNetID and password.
Enter your UMNetID and password to login.
TIPS
- Jump uses pop-ups. If you have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer, the overall performance of Jump may be affected.
- For Mac users: Some Mac users have found that Jump does not work well with all Mac based Web browsers.
What are some of the available features on Jump?
Immediately after you log into Jump, a home page with a series of tabs will open. By clicking on each tab you will have access to different areas of Jump. Some of these tabs are:
- 'home' tab: Displays channels for personal on-line calendars, current weather conditions, campus announcements, your U of M email account inbox, direct links to some campus services and general U of M news topics.
- 'tutorial' tab: Displays several informational files to help you use all of the features of Jump.
- 'campus life' tab: Provides you with direct access to the retail services at U of M including the U of M Bookstore and Answers. From this tab you can purchase your textbooks on-line, browse Travelcuts.ca, check out the latest updates on Bison sports, and browse the U of M Health Services page.
- 'my jump': This tab gives you access to Winnipeg Transit information, local movie theatre listings, dining and night life in Winnipeg, and links to major news websites.
- 'courses' tab: Each course that you are enrolled in has a course home page linked from this tab. If your course has an ANGEL website, you will be able to link directly to that website from this tab. Even if your course does not have an ANGEL website, you can still e-mail and chat with the other students in your class, or view any course announcements that your instructor may have posted. Additionally, a channel for Distance Education has been added to this tab, providing students with direct links to the DE Student Handbook, Exams and Grades information, and information on programs of study offered by DE.
- 'research' tab: Displays channels that can help a student access research funding, application deadlines, research centres, U of M policies and guidelines relating to research, and news articles about exciting research that is taking place at the U of M.
- 'libraries' tab: From this tab you can access your U of M library account, search for library resources and e-journals, search multiple databases and read library news articles. If you are accessing from off-campus, you may still need your library account information to access some services.
- 'Sample' tab: Allows you to customize your view of Jump. You can rearrange the order in which your tabs appear, adjust column widths, add new channels to your tabs and more.
What do the icons at the top of the page mean?
At all times while on Jump, you will see several icons displayed at the top of the page:
- The e-mail icon gives you immediate access to your U of M e-mail account. Your U of M e-mail is important because instructors and University staff will send any e-mail messages to you via that e-mail address because it is the only definite way to ensure that the message was sent to the correct person.
- The calendar icon gives you access to personal on-line calendars that you can use to help keep yourself organized. When you post events on your calendar you have the option of being notified on the date of the event via e-mail to remind you of your posting.
- The groups icon gives you access to join on-line groups at the U of M and to create groups of your own. A group page can be created for students who are in a specific faculty or course or have a particular interest and want to create a web page to use for that group.
- The logout icon allows you to safely exit Jump so that others cannot view your information.
- The help icon gives you access to help files that are specifically related to using Jump.
