Welcome to the Distance and Online Education Help Website!
Purpose of this website
This website is intended to be an online guide for Distance Education (DE) students at the University of Manitoba. Although DE courses are all degree credit and fall under the normal academic regulations of the university, DE students face a unique set of challenges. Assignments must be submitted so that DE staff can ensure that they are directed to the correct instructor for grading, students who are not close to the City of Winnipeg must apply to write their examinations at a distance, and students do not meet their instructors and classmates in-person.
This website contains help on how to meet the challenges faced by DE students. Many of the links contain information you will also find in your Distance and Online Education Student Handbook, however this website also contains help on using ANGEL in your DE course and is searchable online.
How to use this website
Most pages are divided into two sections. Rapid Help is intended to give you the information you need in a short format. Some pages also contain Extended Help. Extended Help provides more detailed information for students who may not have taken a Distance Education course before.
Many pages will also link you to Related Links, which will appear on the upper right side of the screen. These links contain information that is related to the current page and may also be of interest to you.
A few pages have an animation, or an audio or video clip added to them. If this is the case, a small bison icon will light-up at the top right of the screen. This icon will be a clickable link to either a Flash animation or a Real audio/video file. You will need the Real or Flash plug-in to access these files. The links above will take you to the download pages for these products.
