Accessing full-text articles online using Citation Linker

Citation Linker Rapid Help

To access online journal articles, for which you know the citation, the most efficient method is to use Citation Linker. The following steps get you started with Citation Linker. More expansive instructions follow.

  1. Access the University of Manitoba Libraries website. The information pages for distance students are available at University of Manitoba Libraries Off-Campus Library Services webpage.
  2. Select E-Library.
  3. Select Citation Linker. (You will need to login to the University of Manitoba Library system if you accessing from off-campus.)
  4. Fill in the journal name (select “Exact Match” if you know the exact name), year, volume, issue and starting page.
  5. Choose the PDF version of the article if you wish to view all images, as well as the text of the article.

Citation Linker Extended Help

The University of Manitoba Libraries provides students with access to many journals in an online format. Distance and Online Education sometimes chooses to direct students to the online version of the journal article to provide access to journal articles for which it has been impossible to clear copyright.

  1. To use Citation Linker, access the University of Manitoba Libraries website. The information pages for distance students are available at University of Manitoba Libraries Off-Campus Library Services webpage.
  2. Select E-Library.  This link can be found on the right side of the University of Manitoba Libraries Off-Campus Library Services webpage, but is found on the left side of other library pages. Select Citation Linker from the E-Library page.

Tip: If you are accessing from off-campus, you will need to log into the library system using your student number and your library pin number. For further information, refer to this page. If you are unable to login to the University of Manitoba Library system, please contact dafoe_disted@umanitoba.ca for assistance.

To access a particular journal article, fill in the journal name, year, volume, issue, and the starting page number of the article. If you know the exact name of the journal, it helps narrow your search if you select "Exact Match" from the pull-down menu. When you have completed the form, choose UMLinks at the bottom to submit.

You will be presented with a new screen listing links from which you can access the article. Select one.

Your article may be initially presented in a web format (HTML format). Generally images and graphs are not included in the HTML format. If you wish to see the article as it was originally published, select the PDF version of the article. The PDF version can be printed if you prefer to read from paper.
