Phase 3 of the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden

Dr. Alexandra Pawlowsky attended the official opening of Phase 3 of the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden at Assiniboine Park. Guests of honour were Drs. Leo and Margarethe Mol and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

New Acting Director

Dr. Denis Hlynka has been re-appointed Acting Director of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies effective July 1, 2003. Dr. Alexandra Pawlowsky is the Assistant to the Director.

University Teaching Services Workshop

The members of the faculty of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies presented its funded "Virtual Bibliographies" project at a University Teaching Services workshop. this project is the first in a series of efforts to make critical archival and bibliographic information available to students and researchers of Ukrainian Canadiana.

CUCS Participates in Ukrainian Bilingual Program Summer Immersion Camp

On May 14, the faculty of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies presented a one hour session titled "What's UkrainianCanadian about this". Some 55 grade six students as well as teachers and parents participated in this 3 day program held at St. Andrew's College.

With the April 9, 2003 launch of the Archives of the Ukrainian Canadian Experience the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba, has undertaken a project that will benefit the Ukrainian Canadian community.

Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies, Archives and Special Collections, University of Manitoba Libraries and the Department of German and Slavic Studies are co-sponsoring the launch of the Archives of the Ukrainian Canadian Experience.

Dr. Denis Hlynka, as a representative of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies, presented a lecture "A night in Hollywood, a day in Ukraine... with a stopover in Saskatoon" for the Ukrainian Professional and Business Club in Saskatoon.

Ukrainian Canadian Archives Congress

 Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies, Ukrianian Canadian Congress and St. Andrew's College co-sponsored "A symposium on Ukrainian Canadian archives". In attendance were academics and archivists from across Canada.

Meeting with Sheila Copps

The Centre participated in a meeting with the Hon. Sheila Copps. Invited guests to the meeting included the members of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Board of Directors and representatives of Ukrainian cultural, academic and youth institutions. The meeting was held to discuss matters dealing with culture, heritage and multiculturalism. Dr. Hlynka attended on behalf of Dr. Pawlowsky.

Dr. Pawlowsky presented a lecture "Baba, what happened to your language?" to the East European Geneological Society at Place Louis Riel, Winnipeg.

Dean Robert O'Kell of the Faculty of Arts, University of Manitoba, has appointed Dr. Alexandra Pawlowsky Acting Director of the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies, beginning January 1, 2003.
