The Diploma in Labour Studies gives you a broad education at the post-secondary level in labour relations and workplace studies. Required courses cover the economics and politics of work, unions and labour relations. Elective courses cover topics such as employment legislation, labour law and pensions and benefits.
The intended audience is ideal for labour union members and officials, employers and employees in the private and public sectors and industrial relations practitioners.
Program Length: 30 credit hours Delivery Methods: Classroom Program overview
- To provide the nescessary understanding and skills to conduct better labour and industrial relations.
- To make a comprehensive studies available to working adults through part-time study.
Degree Credit
- The program is composed of 30 credit hours of instruction in existing courses for the three-year undergraduate degree in Labour Studies offered in a five-year cycle.
- Students may complete the program in less than five years through regular and summer sessions. Many courses are offered in evening classes. Please note that these degree courses are offered only through the Faculty of Arts or through Summer Session.
- Students must successfully complete all 30 credit hours. They must achieve a C+ grade point average with a minimum of C in each course.
After completing the Diploma in Labour Studies you may decide to complete an undergraduate degree at the Univeristy of Manitoba. Your Diploma courses will count toward your degree requirements.

Note: When LABR 1260 and 1290 are unavailable in the evening in regular session, students may seek permission from the Labour Studies Coordinator, Julie Guard, to start their program with 2000- level courses. The 1000-level courses are usually offered in the evening in Summer Session.
