History Minor or Major Programs

 

For entry to a Major or Minor program, the prerequisite is a grade of "C" or better in the first six credit-hours in history.

HISTORY MINOR

The History Minor program has two purposes -- first, to support the student's Major program and second, to acquaint the student with the history of a limited number of fields.

The History Minor program comprises 18 credit hours of history courses, to be taken as follows:

In the First Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 1000-level or 2000-level  OR 3 credit-hours in History courses at the 1000-level and 3 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level;

In the Second Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level;

In the Third Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level or 3000-level.

HISTORY MAJOR (GENERAL AND ADVANCED):

The History Major programs are designed to provide the serious General Course student with a well-integrated program in history.

The General Major comprises 30 credit-hours of history courses, to be taken as follows:

In the First Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 1000-level or 2000-level OR 3 credit-hours in History courses at the 1000-level and 3 credit hours in History courses at the 2000-level;

In the Second Year ~ 12 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level;

In the Third Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 3000-level and 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level or 3000-level.
The Advanced Major comprises 48 credit hours of history courses, to be taken as follows:
In the First Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 1000-level or 2000-level OR 3 credit-hours in History courses at the 1000-level and 3 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level;

In the Second Year ~ 18 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level;

In the Third Year ~ 18 credit-hours in History courses at the 3000-level OR 12 credit-hours in History courses at the 3000-level and 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 2000-level OR 12 credit-hours in History courses at the 3000-level and 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 4000-level;

In the Fourth Year ~ 6 credit-hours in History courses at the 4000-level.

NOTE: Courses for a Major must be chosen from three different areas of study with a minimum of 6 hours in each area.

It is possible to switch from a History Major program to a History Honours program after the second year if the requisite grade point average has been attained.
