RESEARCH INTERESTS

I specialize in the religious and intellectual history of early modern Britain and Europe, and have a particular interest in the relationship between the long Reformation and the early Enlightenment.  My research examines a range of subjects and themes, including religious intolerance and persecution; mysticism; the rise of comparative religion; witchcraft, demonism, and the occult; the history of science; and the history of history.
