A talk by Stephan Jaeger:

Narrative and aesthetic experience: Why should and how can a Museum for Human Rights represent the past?

Series: Critical Conversations: The Idea of a Human Rights Museum

Session title: 21st-Century German Perspectives

Stephan Jaeger (Department of German and Slavic Studies) discussed the function of narrative in a “museum of ideas”; why and how can the past be represented, in narrative sequences or by simulating past experience, and how can it express historical and cultural specificity while expressing the universality inherent in the concept of human rights? The seminar focused on the representation of war and human rights violation and its subsequent remembrance and representation with a particular focus on World War II and the Holocaust.
