Boe and Eleanore Wong Bursary for Indigenous Students
Terms of Reference

In honour of Boe D. Wong (B.Arch./51) and Eleanore Wong, their son Brad Wong and daughter-in-law Heather Stewart established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba with an initial gift of $50,000 in 2016. The Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative has made a contribution to the fund. The purpose of the fund is to support Indigenous students pursuing studies in Architecture. Beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one bursary to an undergraduate student who:

(1)    is self-declared Canadian Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit);
(2)    is enrolled full-time (minimum 60% course load) in the third or fourth year of study in the Architecture option of the Bachelor of Environmental Design program at the University of Manitoba;
(3)    has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 2.5;
(4)    has demonstrated financial need on the standard University of Manitoba bursary application.

If there are no students who have met the above criteria, the bursary will be offered to a graduate student who:

(1)    is self-declared Canadian Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit);
(2)    is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the Master of Architecture program at the University of Manitoba;
(3)    has achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.0, based on the previous 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study;
(4)    has demonstrated financial need on the standard University of Manitoba bursary application.
