Each year the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Architecture hosts an interdisciplinary symposium entitled Atmosphere. This symposium explores the less tangible aspects of design and experience: the ephemeral, social, situational, emotional, elemental, phenomenal and epiphenomenal conditions of our shared world.

Educators, Practitioners, Researchers and Students are all encouraged to submit.

PAPER PROPOSALS

Atmosphere invites PAPER PROPOSALS for 20-minute presentations exploring one of the following four sub-themes:

History and Theory,

Education and Practice,

Making and Visualization and

Science and Technology.

Proposals should be well grounded in historical, theoretical or creative research, and develop compelling arguments and insights that contribute to interdisciplinary knowledge.

POSTER PROPOSALS

Atmosphere also invites POSTER PROPOSALS.  Research / Project  posters exploring one or more of the sub-themes: History, Theory, Education, Practice, Making, Visualization, Science and Technology.

Educators, practitioners and students are invited to submit projects and reports on ongoing research.  Posters may present built works, settings, theories, or creative research.  Accepted projects will be included in a physical poster exhibition held during the conference.  A number of projects will be selected for special merit awards in Student and Professional categories.

HOW IT WORKS

The conference will focus on interaction between participants. If the proposal is accepted, the speaker will do a 20 minute presentation followed by a discussion and question and answer period with others presenting in the same section.
