Degree Admission Requirements
The majority of new University of Manitoba students will enter University 1 after graduating from high school. Those joining
the University after completing courses at another institution may be able to transfer some credits towards a degree program
at the University of Manitoba.
Before starting their second year of university, students will decide which program they want to take and apply to the
applicable Faculty for admission. To be accepted into the degree programs offered by the Faculty of Agricultural and Food
Sciences students must meet specific requirements in high school and University 1.
High School Requirements
To proceed from the University 1 program into the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, students must have completed
Manitoba Grade 12 (Senior IV) or its equivalent – including Math 40S (pre-calculus), Biology 40S and Chemistry 40S (not required for Agribusiness), plus
electives to total five credits.
University 1 Requirements
Students entering the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences from University 1 must also have completed a minimum of 24
credit hours in University 1, or an equivalent program, with a minimum GPA of 2.00. Recommended courses can be taken from the following list:
- Chemistry
- Statistics
- Biology
- Critical Thinking
- English
- Mathematics for Agriculture and Related Sciences
- Principles of Economics
- Introductory Agriculture
(Term 1 - Natural Resources and Primary Agricultural Production and Term 2 - Production, Distribution and Utilization of Agricultural Products)
- Introduction to Agribusiness Management
- Economics of World Food Issues and Policies
- Food Safety, Today and Tomorrow
- World of Bugs
