Bachelor of Science (Agriculture)

If you are fascinated by science and would like to turn your interest into a career that will directly affect world food production, this is the degree for you! There are a number of exciting employment opportunities awaiting graduates in sales, research, advisory and regulatory positions, as well as international development. You will specialize in one of three distinct areas:

  • Plant Biotechnology
  • Agronomy
  • Animal Systems

The Program
Length: 4 YEARS -- (University 1 + 3 YEARS)

Plant Biotechnology offers students an opportunity to master biological principles that determine plant development, utilization quality and their interactions with disease, insect and weed pests. Subjects include plant structure and function, genetics, ecology, biochemistry, principles of plant improvement and general microbiology with additional options in crop physiology, pest management, horticulture, plant molecular genetics and soil fertility. Graduates will find rewarding careers in public and private agri-research organizations, seed companies, teaching institutions, government agencies and more.

Agronomy provides an education in both crop production and the management/use of land and water resources. Courses include soil/landscape fundamentals, soil/water management, cropping systems, crop physiology and biology of seed plants, with additional options in plant disease control, plant improvement, soil microbiology and water management. Look forward to a rewarding career in the crop protection, fertilizer or seed industry, in crop consulting, or with a grain company, agribusiness, government agency or teaching institution.

Animal Systems will help students gain an overall understanding of animal production, including genetics, anatomy/physiology, nutrition, health and reproduction. Courses include biochemistry, animal environment and animal genetics, with additional options in processing animal food products, waste management, issues in animal agriculture and more. Career opportunities exist in animal production and management, animal agribusiness, communication, education, quality control and research.
