This year, the Offer Date for the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is Friday, November 17th, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. All organizations recruiting students from our faculty for summer positions are expected to wait until that time or later to present job offers. Please note that this applies only to Summer postings, not Permanent, Term or Coop positions.
Repeat jobs can be offered at any time to our students, meaning if the same student is being rehired by your organization, whether it is for the same or a different position, there is no need to observe this offer date. This practice, which relies on the honour system, was put in place with both the students and the employers in mind.
The Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences regards the Offer Date policy as an opportunity to encourage professional ethics in our students. In our experience, using this policy ensures that both students and employers have a fair opportunity to consider their options. For example, students are not being pressed to make decisions too early in the recruitment process. From an employer’s standpoint there are fewer cases where a student accepting a position then reneges if a more desirable offer comes along.
The November 17th date was chosen based on students’ curriculum and exam timeframe, and also what seems to be the heaviest recruitment time for summer positions for agricultural and food industry employers.
The feedback we have received from both students and employers on this practice has been very positive. If you would like to share your thoughts on this, please do send them to email@example.com.
