Pre-Master's Program Information

Student's entering graduate studies with a B.Sc. in a field other than Food Science may be required to do a qualifying program of study referred to as a "Pre-Masters." In order to be eligible for admission to a "Pre-Masters", the applicant must possess a bachelor's degree and must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) or better in the last two full years of the undergraduate program.

The Pre Masters program generally involves one year (i.e. two terms) of study with the student completing 24 credit hours of classes (usually 4 courses/term). The student must maintain a minimum GPA 3.0 with no grade below C+ in order to continue pre-master's study.

The procedure for registering for a Pre-Master's program involves applying for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Upon completion of the Pre-Masters, the student may be considered for an M.Sc. Program in the Department of Food Science; however admission to a Pre-Master's program does not necessarily guarantee future admission to a Master's program.
