Tuesday, February 12th - Careers in Agriculture video launch
Let's celebrate Canada's Agriculture Day together at the launch of our new Careers in Agriculture video exhibit. Join us for light refreshments, a short program and a signature mocktail in celebration of the nine amazing Manitoba women featured in the exhibit.

Saturday, March 2nd - Applied Skills in Food Preparation workshops:

  1. What's for Dinner with Canada's New Food Guide facilitated by Getty Stewart, PHEc
    Canada's New Food Guide is encouraging Canadians to eat more plant-based proteins, but do Canadians know what this means? In this session, we'll discuss how we can help Canadians plan what's for dinner based on the new food guide. We'll review five key sources of plant protein and how to incorporate them into everyday meals. You'll get hands-on practice making four delicious recipes. You'll leave with recipes and ideas to help others put tasty, budget-friendly and easy to make recipes on their plate.

  1. Eating Greener - Reducing Food Waste At Home facilitated by Getty Stewart, PHEc
    How can we help Canadians reduce food waste at home so they can save money and make the most of their food? In this session, we'll cover practical tips and ideas to help keep foods fresh and tasty as long as possible. Through demonstrations and open discussion, we'll cover Best Before Dates, alternatives to plastic food packaging, how to decide what to toss or what to eat, and how to effectively store common foods.

  1. Food Handlers Certificate Course facilitated by FoodSafe Manitoba
    This workshop includes information on safe food handling including food microbiology, safe storage, cooking, and preparation of food in processing plants, restaurants and homes. At the end of the course, students will take the Manitoba Health Food Handler Training exam. A passing grade will result in a Manitoba Food Handler Training certificate valid for 5 years.  Workshop includes sandwich platter lunch.

    Cost: $0 for FHNS students, $25 for U of M staff and students, $50 for general public

Wednesday, March 13 - The Real Dirt on Farming Speaker Up Training
This presentation skills workshop is geared towards farmers, agri-food industry professionals, and farmers’ market vendors interested in learning how to give effective presentations and speak to non-farmers about agriculture. Participants will leave with a USB key filled with the customizable Real Dirt on Farming PowerPoint presentations, speaking notes, and a copy of the Real Dirt on Farming booklet. Workshop includes lunch, please indicate dietary restrictions.
