Dr. Annemieke Farenhorst

Dr. Annemieke Farenhorst is the Associate Dean, Research for the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, and the faculty lead for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).  She is a soil scientist and a professor in the Department of Soil Science.

Education:
Dr. Farenhorst has a Doctorandus (Drs.) in Physical Geography and Soil Science from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from the University of Toronto, Canada.

Research Interests:

  1. Fate of organic chemicals in soil and water, including monitoring for pesticide residues.
  2. On-farm biobed for reducing point-source pollution by pesticides.
  3. Drinking water quality at the household level in First Nation reserves.
  4. Gender and EDI studies in STEM/SETT fields.


Awards:
Dr. Farenhorst has earned a range of teaching, research and outreach awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for leadership in pesticide research, and she was named a WXN 2016 Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award winner.
