Farenhorst at Podium

Dr. Annemieke Farenhorst, Ph.D., P.Ag. is a professor in the Department of Soil Science, University of Manitoba and the Prairie NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering.

She has a Doctorandus (Drs.) in Physical Geography and Soil Science from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from the University of Toronto, Canada.

Her research program focuses on the fate of pesticides, natural steroid estrogens and antibiotics in soil and water, and on community-engagement in water resource management.

She is an associate editor for the Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B: Pesticides, Food Contaminants, and Agricultural Wastes, and an elected member on the Subcommittee on Crop Protection Chemistry of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

She is the principal investigator for the $3 million NSERC CREATE H2O program for water and sanitation security in First Nations. The CREATE H2O program is the first science-engineering research training program in Canada to combine technical water and wastewater management training with Indigenous theory, law and methodological skills training.

She has earned a range of teaching, research and outreach awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 and the University of Manitoba outreach award in 2013.
