JOB OPPORTUNITIES IN ANIMAL SCIENCE


RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION

A Research Associate position is available in the Department of Animal Science, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, in the area of application of biotechnology in the development of feed additives for monogastric nutrition, with emphasis on swine nutrition and health. A considerable portion of the position will involve working closely with an industry partner to complement the work of its research scientists. This will include, but is not limited to the following tasks: receiving and analyzing data from studies completed at various sites around the world, preparation of research reports for specific purposes based on these data, and assisting with liaising with other researchers working with the industrial partner. It is anticipated that the individual in this position will participate in planning meeting with the industry partner to facilitate their work and provide further opportunities for leaning. For the rest of the time, the individual will be responsible for implementing collaborative enzyme research projects conducted at the University of Manitoba and other selected institutions. The successful candidate will be expected to have a Ph.D. in animal (preferably poultry or swine) nutrition. It would be beneficial to have an understanding of factors than influence gut health and/or quality of feed ingredients. The nature of this position demands that the successful candidate have excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask and work with a diverse group of scientists. The individual will also be expected to prepare technical reports, present research results at conferences, and to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication. As a research associate, you will be eligible to participate in the University of Manitoba benefit schemes after one year of service. The position is valued at a minimum of $45,000 per annum depending on qualifications and is available starting July 1, 2011 for three years. POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN SWINE NUTRITION

A research position is available in the Department of Animal Science, University of Manitoba in the area of swine nutrition, with particular emphasis on nutrition and gut health interactions in the piglet. Candidates will be expected to have a Ph.D. in nonruminant (swine) nutrition and an adequate familiarity with the various research techniques used in this area. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask will be a definite asset. The individual will also be expected to perform data analysis, present research results at conferences, and to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication. The position is valued at $35,000 to $40,000 per annum depending on qualifications and is available immediately for two years, with a possibility for a third year.
