Description
Practical language training in Ukrainian or Russian and an extensive exploration of contemporary Ukrainian or Russian culture, and Ukrainian mythology comprise this Travel/Study course. Organized in small groups according to level of language proficiency, students are given maximum individual attention. Excursions are planned in Kyiv and neighbouring sites. Students register for either the Ukrainian or Russian option.
Admission
All individuals wishing to register for a Travel/Study course need to be admitted to The University of Manitoba. See Admission Information beginning on
page 47.
All students must have approval of instructor. Students must register in 6 credit hours (written consent of department head is required).
In order to participate in a Travel/Study course, all students must sign an Acknowledgement of Responsibility and Liability Waiver that outlines risk and shared responsibility associated with Travel/Study.
Registration
All participants in a Travel/Study course are required to register in the course utilizing the University of Manitoba registration system, Aurora Student, beginning on March 23, 2009. You are encouraged to register early as space is limited. Please refer to pages 50-53 for registration procedures and deadlines.
Canadians or landed immigrants studying full-time at a university or college in Canada and who are registering for the Ukrainian courses listed above may be eligible for a grant of up to $750.00 Cdn. from the Taras Shevchenko Foundation. Contact Iryna Konstantiuk for more information (see below).
Fees
Academic Fees
When you have completed your registration, you should request an assessment of your fees (see Registration Procedures on page 53). Note the exact amount of fees owing ñ do not wait to receive a fee statement in the mail. Please refer to page 54 for information on fee payment. You are encouraged to make tuition fee payments immediately.
Travel Fees
$2,825.00 Cdn. (subject to change)
Travel Fees include accommodation (shared room in university residence), some meals, tuition at The National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, some local travel, and related travel/study costs. Airfare, personal expenses, excursions, visa fee, health and trip cancellation insurance, as well as University of Manitoba tuition, are not included. Students traveling with the group or on their own are responsible for arranging return travel to Kyiv, Ukraine (and return), in accordance with the published course dates.
Travel Fees may be paid by cheque (payable to The University of Manitoba), VISA, MasterCard, or in cash. The following is the Travel Fee Payment Schedule:
March 23, 2009 $1,000.00 Cdn.
($200.00 non-refundable deposit)
April 24, 2009 $1,825.00 Cdn.
($2,825.00 if deposit not previously paid)
Travel Fees are paid at: Student Registration and Records, 188 Extended Education Complex, The University of Manitoba.
Refund Policy
$200.00 Cdn. of the total Travel Fees is non-refundable unless the course is cancelled. Prior to the commencement of a Travel/Study course, any refund of Travel Fees is made only up to the amount that is refunded to the University of Manitoba from the external agencies. Once a Travel/Study course has commenced, Travel Fees are non-refundable. Any refund is subject to a $35.00 administration fee.
