Vicki Latter [B.Env.St.(Hons.) Co-op, 2011] is an Environmental Specialist for Abandonrite in Calgary.
She became interested in the environment after taking an introduction to Environmental Studies course at the U of M and realized it was something that she really enjoyed. After working in the heavy construction industry she returned to the U of M and realized that she was very interested in the Environmental Health and Safety field. Vicki notes that the Co-op program in particular opened so many doors in her chosen field. Although her career path has been, as she describes it, "anything but straight!" she gained the confidence to manage major remediation projects. Vicki credits the courses she took that provided her with the experience to undertake diverse environmental assessments and particularly notes that "Those one day soil sampling courses prepared me for my months on end of sampling!" She enjoys these challenges and today loves the diversity and many opportunities to learn new aspects of the oil and gas industry on a daily basis. To quote Vicki: "My time at the U of M has opened many doors for me and allowed me to experience many different avenues of the Environmental Industry while carving out my niche in the industry"
