Conference Workshops: NSERC Discovery Grant Competition Workshop,
Vehicle Dynamics Analysis and Control Workshop, and E. H. Price Workshop

1. NSERC Discovery Grant Competition Workshop:

This workshop is intended for Faculty members. The NSERC DG Program officer and both Chairs from the Solid and the Fluid Sections will attend the workshop to share insights into the evaluation process. This workshop is free to registered CSME International Congress 2012 attendees.

Panel Members:

Ms. Lise Désabrais
Program Officer
Research Grants & Scholarships–Engineering
NSERC

Dr. Antony Hodgson
Chair of Solids Section
Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of British Columbia

Dr. Larry W. Kostiuk
Chair of Fluids Section
Department of Mechanical Engineering
University of Alberta

2. Vehicle Dynamics Analysis and Control Workshop:

This workshop is intended for Engineers, postdoctoral fellows, graduate and under-graduate students. A car as a complex dynamic system responds to the driver inputs via the steering wheel and brake/accelerator pedals as well as tire behavior and environmental inputs such as aerodynamic effects and road conditions. The quality of vehicle performance, ride, handling and its safety can be judged by the vehicle responses. The topics covered in this workshop are to present an insight understanding and mathematical explanation of vehicle dynamics behavior from different perspectives. The core materials covered in this workshop include: fundamentals and terminologies, vehicle motions, vehicle forces and moments, tire mechanics and modeling, longitudinal vehicle dynamics models (accelerating/braking/cornering), single track linear handling model, roll dynamics, handling models, ride models, vehicle vibration analysis, full vehicle modeling using commercial simulation software, and vehicle control. For more information please refer to the call for papers Workshop on Vehicle Dynamics Analysis and Control. Workshop fees: $50 for registered CSME International Congress 2012 attendees and $200 for others.

3. E. H. Price Workshop - HVAC Research Opportunities with PRICE:

This workshop is intended for Engineers, Postdoctoral Fellows, Professors and Graduates. Commercial heating, cooling and ventilation are critical components of all new building and retrofit construction throughout the world. The mechanical systems used to condition these spaces are constantly evolving with an emphasis on indoor comfort, air quality, and acoustics. Price has been a world leader in the design and application of these HVAC products, with more than 30 years of research into these systems in our laboratory facilities. This research includes collaborations with universities throughout North America, including University of Manitoba, University of California Berkeley, University of Minnesota, Texas A&M and many more. This workshop will illustrate Price’s ongoing commitment to innovation and research and will provide an overview of current projects and future research projects open for collaboration. After the presentations there will be a tour of our primary research facility, Price Research Center North. This world class facility is over 18,000 square feet and houses two sound chambers, a capacity calorimeter, and many other HVAC specialty testing facilities.
