Bio
Dr. Orest Cap is a professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Manitoba and former director of the Imperial Oil Academy for the Learning of Mathematics, Science and Technology. Currently, he is president of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and Sciences in Canada. Dr. Cap is an acknowledged leader, distinguished educator and respected researcher in teacher education, digital technology, adult vocational-technical education, and international education. His vitae cites an extensive list of funded research grants and development projects, national and international scholarly presentations and more than 130 publications. Prof. Cap is fluent in three languages (French, Ukrainian and English).  Over his career, he has received a number of  honours, including being elected member of Phi Delta Kappa (1978), the University of Manitoba’s President's Outreach Award for contributions to the field of international education and training in (1999), the Chernihivska (Ukraine) Oblasna Rada Medal and Hramota for humanitarian-educational initiatives (2009), Chernihiv (Ukraine) Special Needs Organization - Chance (2011), and in (2011) he shared with Dr. Hlynka the Dr. Michael and Muriel Ewanchuk Award for designing and delivering an innovative course called “Social Justice: Teaching the Ukrainian Famine Genocide (Holodomor) and Ukrainian Canadian Internment”. Recognized as an Outstanding Teacher (May 2014) by the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, University of Manitoba. In May 2011, he was appointed to a professorship (Faculty of Philosophy) by the Academic Senate of the Ukrainische Freie Universitat (UFU) a leading private graduate university located in Munich, Germany. Recently (Feb. 13, 2013) on behalf of Canada's governor general, he was presented the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
