Long Distance Calls
Calls to telephone numbers outside either campus require an outside line. Dial 4 and the complete number.
  • Long distance calls:
    dial 4 + 1 + area code + 7 digit phone number.

  • Overseas calls:
    dial 4 + 011, country code, city code + phone number.
Some telephone sets are restricted from making long distance calls by departmental choice. If you dial a long distance number from a restricted phone you will hear a fast "busy" signal.

Third party billing and 1-900 calling are not available. For billing personal calls, contact your telephone provider for a calling card associated with your home number.


Operator Assistance

  • Long distance directory assistance:
    dial 4 + 1 + area code + 555 + 1212.

  • Long distance operator:
    dial 4 + 0 + 0.

* A 95¢ charge is billed to the applicable department for long distance directory assistance.


Personal calling cards

To use your card, follow the instructions given on the back of the card.


University calling cards

GroupTelecom calling cards are issued on request to faculty and staff for university-related business. Contact your Department Telephone Coordinator to process a request for a new calling card. If you're not certain who that may be, your general office staff can help.

To use the card, follow the instructions given on the back of the card.

Calling cards should be kept confidential and used only by the individual user. Each call is billed to the individual user on the monthly departmental telephone invoice. The department is responsible for all long distance charges.

If a calling card is lost or stolen, notify the Telephone Office immediately at 474-6601.
