OS and Application Updates

Operating System and Application Update Notifications

Almost every piece of software on your computer, including the operating system, is updated from time to time in order to provide better features, fix bugs (problems) and possibly improve security.

It is very important to routinely apply updates.  If done regularly, or when available, the process is simple and normally quite fast.  The days of setting aside hours or an entire morning to patch a system or application are moving behind us.  Many applications have automatic notifications to make the process easy for any user.

Just don't ignore that little nagging popup.  You could be exposing your system to more serious issues or losing out on new features that enhance productivity.

Web Browser Applications

While there are hundreds of thousands of malware variants in the wild that can spread over the network, through email or infected files, today the browser is the new operating system and the number one attack point for modern malware.  The booming rise of social networking applications and cloud based services means the malware battle is going on outside the firewall.

It is therefore particularly important to keep all your browser applications like Java, Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader up to date as these are most vulnerable for exploit.
