The University of Manitoba through Information Services and Technology does not allow the connection of any device to a University of Manitoba network desktop switch port which will allow multiple hosts to be connected nor devices that hide the location or identity of a host.

When this is the case, and in the event of problems with the network, the network connection will be shut down until IST is satisfied that the device has been removed. IST/ACN will work with individuals, faculties or departments to deal with any special requirements.

There have been security and performance issues on the University network as a result of multiple hosts being connected to a desk top switch port. In this environment it becomes very difficult to identify machines that are infected with viruses or worms or those that may be causing other network problems.
