Outlook 2003 Instructions for Windows (IMAP)

Basic Settings

To confiugre an email account in Outlook 2003 (and earlier) it is required that the setup wizard is used. To begin the setup wizard, click Tools and click Email Accounts...

Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next.

Select IMAP and click Next.

Beside Your Name, enter your first and last name.
Beside E-mail Address, enter the email address you would like to use.
Beside User Name, enter your UMnetID.
Un-check the checkbox for Remeber password.
Beside Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server, enter mail.cc.umanitoba.ca.

Click More Settings...

In the space just below Mail Account, enter a discriptive name for the account. Click OK.

Click Next.

Click Finish.


LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol)
Configuring an email client to use the UofM LDAP server provides quick and easy access to UofM student and employee email addresses.

Click Tools and click Email Accounts...

Choose Add a new directory or address book, and click Next.

Choose Interent Directory Service (LDAP) and click Next.

Beside Server Name, enter direct.cc.umanitoba.ca and click More Settings...

Take note of the alert message that appears. Click OK.

Click the Search tab. For the Search Base, enter o=University of Manitoba,c=CA exactly as it is seen here. Click OK.

Click Next.

Click Finish. Restart Outlook.


Alternate Port Settings (Outgoing only)
The email client may need to be configured to access the outgoing mail server using an alternate port. This needs to be done if your are using MTS as your ISP and need to send email using the UofM outgoing mail server.

Click Tools and click Email Accounts...

Select View or change existing email account. Click Next.

Select the account you would like to modify. Click Change...

Click More Settings...

Click the Outgoing Server tab. Fill the checkbox for My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Ensure the option to Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

Click the Advanced tab. Fill in the checkbox for This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL). Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) to 587.

 Click OK.

Click Next. Click Finish.
