Configuring a Blackberry Internet Service Email Account for Microsoft Exchange

The following instructions are a high level overview that will guide you through configuring your U of M Exchange account to be accessed from your Blackberry over the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS).

Following these instructions will sync email only. Please see our Blackberry Configuration Guide for more details on connecting your Blackberry device to Exchange, and for information on synchronizing your Exchange calendar, contacts, and tasks.

Configuring a BIS email account from your computer

One method of configuring your Exchange email account on your Blackberry is to use the BlackBerry website provided by your service provider. Using your BIS username and password. To do this:

  1. Open a web browser on your computer, and visit your service providers BIS website. For example:

    https://rogers.blackberry.com
      or  https://telus.blackberry.com
     
  2. Login to the site with your BIS username and password. If you do not know your BIS username and password, you will need to contact your service provider for assistance.
  3. Add your Exchange email account, using the following settings:

    Outlook Web Access URL: https://owa.ad.umanitoba.ca
    User name: ad\UMnetID
    Password: Your password
    Email address: First.Last@ad.umanitoba.ca


Configuring a BIS email account from the device

These instructions may vary depending on your Blackberry device, OS, and service provider.
Not all service providers provide the ability to access your Exchange email from your device.

  1. From your Blackberry, click on the Setup icon and select Email Accounts (may also be called 'Manage Internet Email).
  2. Depending on your provider, you may need to login using your BIS username and password. If you lost or forgot this password, you will need to contact your service provider to have it reset. You may also be able to reset it online from your service providers BIS website (eg: https://rogers.blackberry.com or https://telus.blackberry.com)
  3. If you have a CC email account already configured, remove the old account by highlighting it and clicking delete.
  4. Click: Add my existing email account
  5. Enter your full First.Last@ad.umanitoba.ca email address and your password.
  6. You will need to provide the settings to add this email account. The settings you will need to fill out are:

    Outlook Web Access URL: https://owa.ad.umanitoba.ca
    User name: ad\UMnetID
    Password: Your password
    Email address: First.Last@ad.umanitoba.ca
     
  7. If successful, you should see a message saying congratulations and that you will begin receiving email in approximately 5-20 minutes.
