About the Alumni & Friends Association Inc.
Officially formed in 1990, with a primary objective to promote fellowship among College alumni and friends through various means, and to foster activities in support of the College and students in its endeavors to provide a post-secondary education. The Association is currently comprised of a six member Board of Director, and four ex-officio members comprised of the Rector, the Dean, the Senior Stick, and the Rector’s Administrative Assistant.
The Association provides scholarships and bursaries, and promotes speakers, projects, and a greater awareness of the College in the larger Winnipeg community. Alumni are kept informed of College activities by the alumni newsletter, From the Belltower which began in 1986, published twice a year and sent to over 6000 alumni and friends world wide.
Each year the Alumni & Friends Association hosts a fund raising dinner and choose a person or organization that has made a significant difference to the College and honour them on the night of the dinner. Past recipients include: Justice Daniel Kennedy, Dr. Arthur V. Mauro, Manitoba State Knights of Columbus, Dr. Emoke J.E. Szathmáry, Mr. Michael Willcock, and the Jesuits of Winnipeg.
Proceeds from the dinner fund the Alumni & Friends Association Entrance Scholarship which consist of four scholarships of over $1000.00 each. They are awarded annually to four high school students who are entering the University of Manitoba as full-time students. One scholarship is awarded to a graduating student from each of the following high schools: St. Paul’s High School, St. Mary’s Academy, St. Boniface Diocesan High School and St. Maurice High School. The scholarships are awarded based on above average scholastic achievement and demonstrated leadership abilities. The school principals nominate potential recipients. To date the Association has awarded $38,622.00. Monies raised will also receive matching funds from the Manitoba Scholarship and Bursary Initiative.
At every dinner the Association chooses a person or organization that has made a significant difference to the College. Past recipients include: Justice Daniel Kennedy, Dr. Arthur V. Mauro, Manitoba State Knights of Columbus, Dr. Emoke J.E. Szathmáry, Mr. Michael Willcock, and the Jesuits of Winnipeg.
