Академічна й виховна праця Богословського Факультету впродовж п'ятирічного періоду провадилась безперервно й успішно в чотирьох програмах (M.Div., B.Th., Dip.Th., Cert.Th.).

Нижче подається таблиця про кількість студентів, зареєстрованих в Колеґії Св. Андрея щороку. Число студентів за звітний період було доволі стабільним.

Так як і завжди, більшість студентів є з Української Православної Церкви й наша програма старається задовольнити потреби Української Православної Церкви. У цьому звітному періоді були студенти також з інших Церков: Сербської, Румунської, Коптської Православної і Української Католицької Церков. Українські православні студенти були переважно з західної Канади або з України.

Students in the Faculty of Theology

The chart below illustrates the number of students registered in Theology courses at St. Andrew's College. The number of registered students was quite stable over the five-year period.

As always the majority of students are from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the program strives to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. During this reporting period there were also students from other Churches: Serbian, Romanian, Coptic Orthodox and Ukrainian Catholic Churches. The Ukrainian Orthodox students were predominantly from Western Canada or from Ukraine.

В останньому році програми або після закінчення програми, коли студенти чи абсольвенти канонічно підготовлені й прийняті Собором Єпископів і Консисторією, вони можуть бути рукоположені у сан дияконський чи священичий. Нижче подається список абсольвентів, які були рукоположені в цьому п'ятирічному періоді.

Ordinations of Students or Graduates of the Faculty of Theology

In their final year of studies or after graduation, when a student or graduate is canonically prepared and accepted by the Council of Bishops and the Consistory, they may be ordained into the deaconate or priesthood. Listed (see chart) are the theology graduates or students who have been ordained in this five-year reporting period.

2005 - 2006

Каплиця

Колеґіяльна Каплиця має дуже важливу роль у вихованні кандидатів в ряди духовенства нашої Церкви. Богослуження в Каплиці відбуваються кожного дня. Це дає нагоду кожному студентові вправлятися в Богослужбовому читанні та співі.

Богослужбове життя в Каплиці не тільки дає технічну підготовку, але й духовно готує студента і дає можливість плекати самодисципліну і готуватися до життя та обов'язків священика. Участь студента в Каплиці є показником, чи кандидат надається на висвяту чи ні. Каплиця завжди відкрита. Студенти з резиденції також мають нагоду щодня молитися в каплиці. Таким чином участь в Каплиці сприяє духовному зростові молодих людей – майбутніх членів нашої Церкви.

Настоятель Каплиці, як капелян всіх православних студентів університету, провадить не лише літургічну практику при Богослуженнях, але й проводить дискусії на духовні теми (сповіді, поради) як зі студентами Богослов'я, так і з студентами університету. Тому що праця капеляна вимагає багато часу (чи вдень чи вночі треба бути готовим надати потрібну допомогу), я вважаю, що капелян повинен завжди жити у резиденції зі студентами. Я дякую Дирекції Колеґії, що дає мені таку нагоду.

College Chapel

The St. Andrew's College Chapel serves a very important function in the training of future clergy of our Church. Services are held in the Chapel every day during the academic term which gives each student an opportunity to practice and grow stronger liturgically.

The liturgical life in the Chapel not only gives technical training but provides a spiritual formation and the opportunity to foster self-discipline in preparing for the life and obligations of a priest. The participation of a student in Chapel life is a good indication of whether he will be a good candidate for ordination or not. The Chapel is always open. Also, non-theology students have on opportunity to pray everyday in the Chapel. In this way, Chapel life contributes to the spiritual growth of young people who will be the future members of our Church.

The priest assigned to the Chapel, as Chaplain of all Orthodox students of the University of Manitoba, does not simply give practical liturgical teaching but also provides an opportunity for spiritual discussions (counselling and/or confession) to the Theology students and to University students in general. Because the work of the College Chaplain places great demands on the time of a Chaplain (he must be available day or night), I believe it is important that the Chaplain live in the College with the students. I thank the Board of Directors of St. Andrew's College for the opportunity to do so.

Студентська діяльність

Крім студій та участі в Богослуженнях, студенти прислуговують в Архиєрейських та в місійних Богослуженнях Вінніпезького Деканату. Іноді студенти працюють по парафіях або в Консисторії.

Літом студенти мають нагоду працювати при парафіях, літніх таборах чи в Інститутах. Особливо хочу подякувати тим настоятелям і управам Громад, які дали можливість студентам працювати в громаді літом, й таким чином набувати практичний досвід у підготовці до висвячення.

Student Activities

In addition to their academic studies and participation in liturgical services, the theology students are invited to participate in special Archpastoral Liturgical Services and assist in the Winnipeg Deanery parish services. Occasionally, students work in parishes or at the Consistory.

During the summer months students have the opportunity to work in the parishes, summer camps or in the Institutes. I would especially like to thank the priests and parish executives who have made it possible for students to work in our communities and thus gain practical parish experience which helps them prepare for ordination.

Науковадіяльність Богословського Факультету

Членів Богословського Факультету Колеґії Святого Андрея часто запрошували виступати у парафіях, на конференціях чи на духовних вправах і вони готові прислужитись у майбутньому.

Треба згадати великий вклад наших професорів в комісіях і комітетах при Консисторії. Членів Богословського Факультету часто кличуть допомогти у виконанні проектів церковного проводу.

До сьогодні випущено 14 чисел Богословського журналу "Віра й Культура". 15-те число присвячене пам'яті митрополита ІЛАРІОНА (Огіенко) що його видає Колеґія разом з Консисторієюю

Academic Activities of the Faculty of Theology

Members of the Faculty of Theology of St. Andrew's College were often invited to speak at parishes, conferences or retreats and they are happy to have more opportunities to do so in the future.

Professors of Theology have contributed a great deal to commissions and committees of the Consistory. Members of the Faculty are often called upon to assist with various projects of the Church leadership.

The theological journal "Faith and Culture" has successfully published fourteen issues. The fifteenth volume dedicated to the memory of Metropolitan ILARION (Ohienko) is published together with the Consistory.

Consistory - College Co-operation

The College is an integral part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada and as such has a long history of synergies and points of co-ordinated work with the Consistory of the UOCC. In addition to various examples mentioned elsewhere in this report there are three types of synergies which it would be good to review: a) official, b) practical, and c) future enhancements.

a) Official: The By-Laws of St. Andrew's College mandate many points of co-operation:
 The Metropolitan of the UOCC is ex-officio the Chancellor of St. Andrew's College. He signs and awards all Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees of the Faculty of Theology and as such is central to all convocations of St. Andrew's College.
 The Metropolitan and also the Chancellor of the UOCC are voting members of the Academic Senate which approves all graduates of St. Andrew's College.
 The Metropolitan and also the Chancellor of the UOCC are voting members of the Theology Faculty Council which affords them the opportunity to review the progress of the students semester by semester. They thus get to know the students well, long before the question of ordination comes up.
 The Metropolitan and also the Chancellor of the UOCC are voting members of the Full Board of Directors so that they are acquainted with, and can participate in, the direction of all aspects of the management of St. Andrew's College.
 As the Metropolitan and also the Chancellor of the UOCC are members of the Senate, the Faculty Council and the Board of Directors, they receive minutes of all of the meetings for their files.
 The course program of the Faculty has the approval of the members of the Sobor of Bishops.
 The Principal of the College, the Dean of the Faculty of Theology, the Chaplain and all who teach in the Faculty must be approved by the Consistory.
 When the Dean is setting up each year's list of courses for the Theology students he must pick the teaching staff only from the list of Consistory pre-approved possible professors.

b) Practical
 It is the policy of St. Andrew's College to buy all supplies for the Chapel etc. from the Consistory Church Goods Supply, paying regular price, to avail ourselves of their quality products but also as a way of supporting the viability of Consistory enterprise.
 When the Visnyk had budget issues a number of years ago, the Board of St. Andrew's College decided to purchase, for regular price, at least one full-page per issue to support the Visnyk and benefit from that fine newspaper.
 St. Andrew's College, many years ago, closed its bookstore as a way of supporting the book sales of the Consistory Church Goods.
 St. Andrew's College provides its facilities free-of-charge to the Consistory and the Church for various meetings of the Consistory and such.
 If requested, St. Andrew's College provides the Consistory or Church with catering and room rates at minimal cost.
 St. Andrew's College enabled the Consistory to avail itself of the special discounted hotel rates the College negotiated with a major hotel near the College.

c) Future Enhancements:
 St. Andrew's College welcomes the formation of the Consistory UOCC / SAC Joint Committee to explore opportunities for further possible synergies.

Жертводавцям Колеґії належиться велика подяка. Кошт виховання й вишколення кандидатів на висвяту не малий, а покривається самими студентами, Колеґією та її жертводавцями.

Хочу щиро подякувати Канцлерові Колеґії Святого Андрея, Високопреосвященнішому Митрополитові Іванові , усім членам Консисторії, головам і членам Дирекції Колеґії Святого Андрея, усім професорам і працівникам Колеґії за співпрацю, підтримку й молитви. Велике спасибі.

Дякуючи щиро й сердечно усім жертводавцям Колеґії Святого Андрея, закликаю усіх до дальшої фінансової й моральної підтримки й до помочі у вербуванні нових студентів.

Closing Remarks

The donors of St. Andrew's College deserve many sincere thanks. The cost of educating and training candidates for ordination is not insignificant and is covered by the students themselves, the College and its generous donors.
