Минуло 92 славні роки з моменту заснування Української Греко-Православної Церкви в Канаді, і 91 рік з моменту відкриття першої духовної семінарії в Саскатуні, провінції Саскачеван. Це також 50 років від 12-го Собору Української Православної Церкви, де ухвалили резолюцію перемістити Колеґію Св.Андрея на кампус Манітобського Університету. В 1972 р. Колеґія Св.Андрея запропонувала Університету акредитовані курси. Вперше в 1975 році почеснoго ступеня доктора канонічного права було удостоєно мирянина. У 1977 році Манітобський Університет надав Колеґії Св. Андрея "Special Affiliation Status within the University with emphasis on Ukrainian cultural heritage‖. В 1979 році сенат Манітобського Університету затвердив Центр Українських Канадських Студій, що було створенo Колеґією Св.Андрея. Основний "Special Affiliated Status", як угоду між Колеґією Св. Андрея і Манітобським Університетом було офіційно підписано у 1981 році.
Піонери початку 1900-х років були дуже далекоглядні і мудрі, що створили таку гарну основу для майбутнього. На протязі років Колеґія Св.Андрея виховала і випустила багатьох провідників Української Православної громади як серед духовенства, так і серед мирян. Що нам потрібно зробити зараз, це зберегти те, що було створено для нас, і додати нововведення, коли виникають потреби.
За останні 5 років Колеґія Св.Андрея, з Консисторією нашої Української Православної Церкви в Канаді, створили спільний спеціальний комітет з метою визначення способів покращення взаємодії, економії ресурсів та фінансів. На сьогоднішній день комітет має позитивні результати.
Це важливо, і ми дуже раді, що Колеґія Св.Андрея має таке високе визнання в Манітобському Університеті завдяки старанням о.Романа Божика, який бере активну участь у житті Університету в якості повноправного члена Сенату Університету,Ради деканів та директорів, та як капелан на Кампусі. Він запрошений до участі в усіх Конвокаціях Манітобського Університету в якості постійного члена Президії, часто розпочинає церемонію. Колеґія Св.Андрея має помітний вплив на адміністрацію університету та студентські організації. Наша присутність на території кампусу є важливою і взаємовигідною, як для Манітобського Університету, так і для Колеґії Св.Андрея.
Міні-колеґія, яка щорічно проходить в Колеґії, є прикладом одного з аспектів зв'язку освіти з громадою, постійно зростає і має великий вплив на молодь, що бере участь в цій діяльності. Спасибі Добр. Ґені Божик за керівництво цією важливою справою.
Є багато програм і послуг, що надаються Колеґією Св.Андрея, які мають тривалий позитивний ефект і служать на благо Українській Православній Церкві в Канаді, США та інших Православних Церков у вільному світі.
Центр Українських Канадських Студій пропонує кредитні курси в гуманітарному відділі Колегії Св.Андрея, та Манітобського Університету. Завдяки Центру, до Колеґії Св.Андрея приїзжають всесвітньо відомі вчені зі своїми науковими дослідженнями і виступають з доповідями для нашої спільноти. Ми дуже пишаємося тим, що Колеґія Св.Андрея і Центр Українських Канадських Студій плідно співпрацюють на добро Українській Православній Церкві і всій Канаді.
З великим задоволенням усі останні 10 років я був членом Дирекції Колеґії Св.Андрея.
Величезна подяка нашому Канцлеру, Його Високопреосвященству Митрополиту ІВАНУ, Всечесному отцю Роману Божику і Добр.Ґені Божик, нашому бурсару і фінансисту пану Морісу Лабель і всім членам Дирекції, які віддали безкорисливо свій час і знання протягом останніх 5 років. 92 glorious years have passed since the beginnings of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church оf Canada and it has been 91 years since the first Theological Seminary opened in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It is 50 years since the 12th Sobor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church approved a resolution to relocate St. Andrew's College to the Fort Garry campus of the University of Manitoba. In 1972 St. Andrew's College offered University accredited courses. 1975 was the first time the honorary degree of Doctor of Canon Law was awarded to a layperson. In 1977 the University of Manitoba approved that St. Andrew's College be given ―Special Affiliation Status within the University with emphasis on Ukrainian cultural heritage.‖ In the year 1979 the University of Manitoba Senate approved that the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies be established at St. Andrew's College as a basis of ―Special Affiliated Status‖ for St. Andrew's College within the University of Manitoba and the agreement was officially signed in 1981.
The pioneers of the early 1900s had great wisdom and foresight into the future to have established such a good foundation for our futures. St. Andrew's College produced many members of the clergy and leaders for the Ukrainian Canadian Orthodox community, as well as for others. What we need to do now is to maintain what was established for us and add new innovations as the needs arise.
In the past 5 years the College, with the Consistory of our Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, established a collaborative ad-hoc committee to identify means of improving communications and saving resources and finances. This committee is on-going with positive results.
It is important, and we are very pleased, that St. Andrew's College has such a high profile at the University of Manitoba with Fr. Roman Bozyk actively participating in University life as a full Member of the University of Manitoba Senate,Deans & Directors Council and Campus Chaplaincy Services. He participates in all University of Manitoba Convocations as a regular member of the podium party and frequently gives the invocation. St. Andrew's College has a marked impact on the University administration, faculty and student bodies on campus. Our presence on campus is important and beneficial to both the University of Manitoba and St. Andrew's College.
Mini-College is an example of one aspect of education and community outreach that is ongoing at the College, is growing in numbers and has a great influence on the youth that partake of this summer activity. Thank you to Dobr. Genia Bozyk for spearheading this momentous undertaking.
There are many programs and services provided by St. Andrew's College which have long lasting positive effect on, and serve for the good of, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canada, the USA and other Orthodox Churches in the free world.
The Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies offers credit courses through the humanities section of St. Andrew's College and the University of Manitoba. World-renowned scholars visit, do research and make presentations at St. Andrew's College through the Centre, for our community and for the general public. We are very proud that St. Andrew's College and the Centre for Ukrainian Canadian Studies work so well together for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and all of Canada.
It has been my pleasure to have served on the Board of St. Andrew's College for the past 10 years.

The Board carried out much of its work through its committees. There were 8 committees: Finance, Academic/Publication, Scholarship/Bursary, Personnel, Building, Strategic Planning, Board Development, and Nominating. As well, there were ad-hoc committees: By-laws, Macenko Chair of Church Music, and Fundraising. Every Board member was appointed to at least one committee, or more. The Board committees met on a per need basis.
As the highest legislative body, the Board of Directors of St. Andrew's College is responsible to the UOCC, and fulfilled all the duties and responsibilities of its mandate faithfully and responsibly. |
