Morris Kowalchuk Memorial Fund Scholarship Morris was born in Oakburn, Manitoba September 17, 1930, the youngest son of Anton and Anna (Panchuk) Kowalchuk. He attended Rogers School and Oakburn High School. He was actively involved in CYMK (Ukrainian Orthodox Youth Association) in Oakburn and took an active part in St. Volodymyr’s Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. In 1955 Morris attended Teachers’ College in Winnipeg. His teaching career of over 10 years included positions in the Oakburn district, Lynn Lake, Shoal Lake, and Brandon, Manitoba. In 1964 Morris moved to London, Ontario where he worked at Kowalchuk Real Estate. Shortly afterwards he went into the real estate business on his own where he was involved in purchasing, building, and managing rental properties. He was a long time member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in London where he served on the Church Board holding numerous Executive positions. Morris was a respected member of both the Ukrainian and business communities. He was very devout, dedicated to his Church, community, and always willing to help those in need. Morris was exceptionally gentle and kind. He was a generous supporter of the Consistory of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, St. Andrew’s College in Winnipeg, St. Volodymyr’s Church in Oakburn, and numerous charities. Morris Kowalchuk Memorial Fund Scholarship was established for the Theology Student with the highest standing in Ukrainian (language) studies. Fr. Michael Maranchuk of Vegreville is the first recipient.
