between imformation technology and education.
Expanded Course Description
Information technology has become an integral dimension of contemporary
education. Computers have become ubiquitous. The internet has become a
standard source of research. Communication by email is all but a requirement.
New technologies such as Personal Digital Assistants and "learning objects"
are working their way into the educational system.
It becomes important for all teachers, trainers, and professors to have
a solid grasp on critical issues regarding information technology and
its intersection with teaching, training, and learning. The purpose of
this course is to focus on critical current issues. That means that specific
readings will change from course to course, and the content within a given
course will be subject to some variation.
This course is relevant at all levels of teaching and learning, from adult
and post-secondary educators as well as K-12. It is not a technical course.
The focus is NOT how to use Excel better and faster, or how to make a
stunning powerpoint presentation. Rather, the course will explore current
research and directions in the social and philosophic dimensions that
lie at the intersection of technology and education. It is not a course
for only "ed tech majors."
