Jane Ursel is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Manitoba, she is also the director of RESOLVE a tri-provincial family violence research network. Dr. Ursel is the principal investigator of two major longitudinal studies. The first is the study of Canada’s first specialized Family Violence Court in Winnipeg which has been ongoing for 23 years. The second study is a six year, seven wave set of interviews with women who have experienced interpersonal violence in their intimate relationships. The study of intimate partner violence is taking place in three provinces, 39 communities and involves over 600 women. Dr. Ursel has also served as an expert witness in domestic homicide cases in Manitoba and Ontario. She also served as a Lay Bencher with the Manitoba Law Society for seven years and was a member of the Winnipeg Family Violence Court Advisory Committee. In 2012 she became a member of an international advisory committee assisting the Glenn Inquiry into Family Violence in New Zealand.
