The RCFFN was involved in establishing a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Manitoba and the Ministry of Agriculture, P.R. China in Beijing June 17-18. The signing was performed by Mr. Qin Yuchang, Director/Professor, Food and Nutrition Development Institute, Ministry of Agriculture, P.R. China and Dr. Peter Jones, President, Manitoba Agri-Health Research Network Inc.-MAHRN and Director, RCFFN. The signing was coincident with the announcement of the Omega 3 Egg Trial Results and Establishment of Standards and Testing Protocols for Functional Foods in China. The MOU signing was to encourage future China-Canada cooperation of support for a joint science based China-Canada framework with a focus on the infrastructure required for functional foods in China (training, research capacity needs- human, feed, food processing; analytical laboratory testing and the development of standards for functional food statements and food safety protocols). Omega 3 eggs will be the first product to have testing and standards established to begin commercialization in China.
