The collection held by the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) is primarily digital. This poses real challenges in terms of preserving the information in the collection not only for the immediate future, but forever. 

The pace of digital change is rapid. This can often result in files that can no longer be opened because the formats and technologies used to save them are no longer supported.

For this reason, the NCTR will be a leader in understanding and applying the latest in digital preservation technologies, best practices and methods.

Drawing on the strengths of faculty members from the University of Manitoba’s Archival Studies Program and other thought leaders and experts in the field, the NCTR is committed to ensuring that Canada’s Indigenous Archive is preserved for today, for users seven generations from now, and far beyond
