Executive in Residence
The Executive-in-Residence program at the Manitoba Institute for Policy Research is intended to connect successful public sector leaders with the Institute to develop research projects, engage in community initiatives and expose students to real life public sector experiential learning. The precise function of the Executive-in-Residence will vary depending on the individual, his or her background and interests. Participants in the program will work in conjunction with the Institute personnel to determine their focus during their appointment.

Focus Areas Include:

  • Strengthening Ties with the Public Sector: hosting lectures that bring together public sector leaders, faculty, and students for stimulating presentations or panel discussions on the management of modern government, the changing public sector environment and key public policy issues. Assisting with the identification of the needs and expectations of the public sector community.
  • Teaching and Mentoring Students: Executives may teach entire courses or guest lecture on topics within their area of expertise. They may work in conjunction with Institute personnel and others to develop and deliver training programs. They may also mentor and advise interested students in formal or informal session on career choices within the public sector.
  • Public Policy and Public Management Research: Executives may contribute directly to research in these fields by completing research projects within their area of expertise or they may contribute indirectly to research by facilitating grants and contracts to support the Institute’s goal of becoming the leading public policy research organization in Manitoba.

Successful candidates for the Executive-in-Residence program will be dynamic leaders with a proven record of success at the senior executive level of the public sector, be interested in issues of public policy in the context of modern government, be comfortable working in a research-intensive organization, and bring a professional sense of the purpose and commitment to the goals of the Institute, and its well-being. Appointments are typically for one to two years, with the possibility of renewal.
