February 28, 2012 - Today our Faculty and Staff Giving Campaign launches. The campaign asks faculty and staff members to define themselves by giving a gift to support Active Living, Research, Student Success, Culture and Creativity, and their own unit (faculty, department, etc.). Please link it to: https://umanitoba.ca/admin/dev_adv/howtogive/donation/campus/index.html.

February 15, 2012 - The Research Office is piloting a new program (award) with the aim of getting undergraduate students involved and excited about research. This award will allow students the opportunity to be mentored by a researcher over the summer months. The deadline for application is March 15, 2012 so students need to move quickly. If you have any questions on the award, please contact Dr. Gary Glavin, Associate Vice-President (Research), as he will be leading the program. He can be contacted at Glavin@cc.umanitoba.ca or 789-3555. Please see letter for more information.

January 31, 2012 - New Water Bottle Filling Stations in University Centre

January 31, 2012 - Congratulations to Brandi and Vimbai! Their session at the recent Residence Life Conference addressed stereotypes and assumptions we make about different cultures as international students enter our residence community. Their presentation also focused on the numerous supports available to international students, as well as the programs we offer with the goal of easing this transition and ensuring a positive residence experience is had by all. A top 5 finish speaks to the quality of the presentation and the quality of the presenters!

Internet Outages - Student Residences

Every Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. all the Internet equipment in Mary Speechly Hall and University College Residence will be reset. If your connection stops working in that time slot, try it again after 9:00 a.m. This should minimize problems on the weekend and probably overall, plus it will give us a chance on a regular basis to see if we have any hardware failures or heating issues.

January 30, 2012 - One of the concerns of living in residence is unsolicited or unauthorized entry into your room/suite. We are sensitive to and take proper precautions before entering into rooms, and in almost all cases, provide at least 24-hours notice of entry. Nevertheless, we would like to take an additional step in terms of communication with residents when it comes to room entry by having all U of M staff, e.g., Physical Plant, caretakers, IT staff, etc., leave a "Calling Card" when they have to enter a room without the student being present. Effective immediately, we will be implementing the use of these Calling Cards.
