Bachelor of Commerce Business Luncheon 2010

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate you on your acceptance into the I. H. Asper School of Business and welcome you to our world-class institution.  This is a tremendous milestone in your life and it is a time to celebrate!

Your academic year will begin on Tuesday, September 7th with the Bachelor of Commerce Business Luncheon hosted by the Associates of the I. H. Asper School of Business at the Fairmont Hotel in downtown Winnipeg.  At this event you will get to know your classmates, professors and members of the Associates.

Your hosts at this event will be members of the Associates, consisting of over 250 senior business leaders from Manitoba and Canada. The Associates are a unique external group who share the School’s commitment to excellence in business education. This event will introduce you to the mentors, employers, and role models, who will play a major role in your professional future.

Alumnus Paul Soubry, B.Comm (Hons) 1984, will be the luncheon’s keynote speaker. Mr. Soubry started his career at Standard Aero in 1985 and over 24 years held a variety of positions in Marketing, Sales and Operations including being named President in 2001, Chief Operating Officer in 2006 and CEO in 2007. In January 2009, Mr. Soubry was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of New Flyer Industries Inc, the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses in the United States and Canada. Mr. Soubry has been involved in many industry and community organizations and currently sits on the Board of Directors of: New Flyer Industries, Mondetta Clothing Company, The Smartpark Development Corporation, and Economic Development Winnipeg.  Mr. Soubry will share the story of the journey that led him from a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Manitoba to the office of CEO in one of North America’s leading and most innovative manufacturers.

The Bachelor of Commerce Luncheon is part one of your two-part I. H. Asper School of Business welcome and orientation.  The following day, on September 8th, the Commerce Students’ Association will host Buddy Day, a full day of exploration and entertainment within the I. H. Asper School of Business alongside your fellow students. You will be contacted later in the summer with more details.

On September 7th you will take your first step into a larger world and begin your journey towards your professional life.  You will join a community of hundreds of students, staff and faculty and thousands of alumni of the I. H. Asper School of Business.  Welcome!  We look forward to meeting you!
