Our understanding of the everyday is ambiguous; the everyday resides in the deeply habituated, repetitious and familiar; the often overlooked and maligned, present-but-persistent, indeterminate; and the self dissolved into anonymity.
However the everyday is also a site for possibility, for new kinds of perception associated with globalization, speed, flight, and the development of rapid communications; resistance, transgressive visions such as the ‘Slow Movement’, and revolutionizing everyday life by design. Everyday is a place or space where experience and reflection may meet producing moments of authenticity.
The Atmosphere symposia explore the intangible and overlooked dimensions of design, planning & architecture—those difficult to pin down, document, or record with conventional instruments and methodologies.
