TRACE R & D 2009

June 2-3, 2009
Fairmont Hotel
Winnipeg, MB

Organized by the University of Manitoba and supported by Canada’s Industry-Government Advisory Committee on Traceability

In 2006, the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Ministers of Agriculture announced the need for a National Agriculture and Food Traceability System (NAFTS) beginning with livestock and poultry, with the objectives to prepare for and respond to emergencies including outbreaks of animal disease and food safety outbreaks, and to enhance industry’s competitiveness and ability to retain or capture market opportunities.

In support of NAFTS, a traceability research and development (R&D) conference and trade show will be held June 2, 2009 in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). The objectives of the conference and trade show are for participants to learn about the latest research findings and technologies, to facilitate collaborative work and to identify research projects and technology developments which should be prioritized in order to facilitate the implementation of traceability systems in the agricultural and food sectors.

On June 3, 2009 a traceability R&D strategic workshop will be held. The workshop aims to lay down the ground work for a Canadian traceability R&D strategy which would address issues such as the identification and communication of research priorities; the communication of on-going projects and projects’ findings; the development of a forum where collaborative work between governments, producers’ groups, service providers and the private sector is nurtured; the facilitation and measurement of technology adoption.

We anticipate approximately 200 participants from across Canada, the United States of America and the European Union representing governments, universities, research centres, research programs, the private sector and industry.
