Research interests: (i) Diagnosis of potato diseases with emphasis on late blight: classical methods (symptoms, culture isolations, ...etc), and DNA-based techniques (PCR, PCR-Elisa, ...etc); (ii) Epidemiology: determination of late blight pathogen mating types, Gpi-genotypes (US-1, US-8, ...etc), races, resistance to fungicides...etc; (iii) Research on new methods for control of potato diseases in the field and during storage caused by airborne, soilborne, and seedborne pathogens; (iv) Potato-fungal pathogen interactions: mechanisms of plant defense reactions using phenolic and terpenic compounds analyses (TLCs, Flash columns, HPLC, ...etc), and their in-situ localization (light, fluorescence, and electron microscopy).
