Rob Patenaude farms at Holland MB and is part owner in Patenaude Farms which operates 2800 acres of grain and a 100 head feedlot. Variable rate fertilization was first included in the operation in 2008 and used on a portion of the acreage since, primarily on cereal and canola crops. Nitrogen is occasionally applied in the fall but is usually varied at seeding and placed in a mid-row band. The variable rate fertilization advisor provides nutrient prescription maps based on soil testing. Rob has used yield maps on the variable rate fertilized fields to evaluate yield differences. In most fields, yield maps relate closely to the variable rate fertilizer and the targeted yield potentials.
