Dr. Mark Torchia has been the Executive Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning since 2011. Previously, Dr. Torchia had a 30 year career as a clinical scientist in the Department of Surgery with St. Boniface General Hospital, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and the Health Sciences Centre. He was also the Director of Advanced Technologies for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Director of the Medical Pre-clerkship Curriculum for the University of Manitoba. Dr. Torchia continues as an Associate Professor of Surgery where his teaching activities relate to human embryology and fetal development. Dr. Torchia has founded successful medical device companies, including Monteris Medical® (NeuroBlate®). He is the author of numerous academic papers, two medical textbooks, and holds many patents. Dr. Torchia is a winner of the prestigious Earnest C. Manning Principal Prize and the Governor General of Canada's inaugural Award for Innovation.
